A brief history

Dalhousie University, established in 1818, has a deep-rooted history that reflects the growth and evolution of higher education in Canada. It was founded by George Ramsay, the ninth Earl of Dalhousie and then Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, making it one of the earliest universities in Canada. Initially named Dalhousie College, it started as a non-denominational institution with the aim of providing accessible education to Nova Scotians. Over the years, Dalhousie expanded its academic offerings and gained recognition for its commitment to research and scholarship. It underwent several transformations and mergers with other institutions, such as the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) in 1997, further diversifying its academic portfolio.

Fee Structure

  • Domestic undergraduate students can expect to pay between $7,312 and $8,595 in tuition fees per year.
  • International undergraduate students can expect to pay between $25,950 and $29,000 in tuition fees per year, depending on the program of study.
  • All students, including international students, are required to pay incidental and auxiliary fees in addition to tuition fees.
  • The fee due dates for the fall and winter terms are September 16, 2022, and January 20, 2023, respectively.
  • Students who audit a class pay one-half of the regular tuition fee plus auxiliary fees, if applicable.
  • The Dalhousie International Student Association Society fee is $5.00 per term for all international students.
